Minimum Salary in Venezuela: Current Amount and Rules

What is the current minimum salary in Venezuela, and what mandatory benefits complement it? Here's what employers are required to pay.

Venezuela’s minimum wage system has gone through several adjustments in recent years, and it works somewhat differently from a simple hourly or monthly minimum in most countries, since it interacts with a separate set of mandatory bonuses. Here is how it currently works.

Current Minimum Salary Amount

As of 2026, Venezuela’s base legal minimum wage sits at a bolivar figure set by government decree, which has been adjusted upward during the year, alongside a separate mandatory food bonus. Beyond the base wage, the government has also pushed for a broader “integral income” concept for both public and, informally, private sector workers, combining the base salary with additional bonuses to target a total monthly income in the range of 240 US dollars for some workers. Because these figures are adjusted by decree and have changed multiple times recently, always confirm the current official amount before using it for payroll calculations.

How It’s Set by Decree

Venezuela’s minimum wage is set by presidential decree rather than through an annual indexed formula, which means adjustments can happen at any point in the year and are announced through official government channels rather than on a predictable schedule.

Mandatory Benefits on Top of Minimum Salary

Regardless of the exact minimum wage figure at any given time, employers owe mandatory benefits on top of it: a paid vacation period plus a vacation bonus, a year end bonus equal to at least 30 days of salary, and accrued severance style benefits that build up throughout employment. These are calculated based on total compensation, including any dollar denominated bonus, not just the bolivar minimum wage figure.

What Happens When It Changes

When the minimum wage changes, employers whose base pay was at or near the previous minimum need to adjust immediately to remain compliant, and any retroactive adjustments announced by decree need to be reflected in the next payroll cycle, including recalculating any benefits that are based on salary, such as the vacation bonus and year end bonus, for the affected period.

FAQs

Is the minimum wage the same for all workers? Generally yes, as a legal floor, though total compensation, including bonuses, varies significantly by employer and role.

Can employers pay the minimum wage entirely in US dollars? The bolivar denominated component must meet the legal minimum wage requirement; additional dollar pay is typically structured as a bonus on top of that base.

How often does the minimum wage change in Venezuela? It has changed multiple times in recent years, without a fixed annual schedule, so employers should monitor official decrees rather than assuming a fixed figure holds indefinitely.
